SLEEP- “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”

Sleep is the perfect end to a long, weary day. And almost everyone (except those workaholics who hardly find time to rest) relishes the thought that after a tiring, exhaustive day, there awaits nirvana-sleep! Sleep doesn’t only relaxes, refreshes and rejuvenates you but it gives an array of healthful benefits including good circulation, strong immune system, improved memory, sharp concentration and yes !- luminous, young-looking skin!

Our integumentary system or the skin is the largest organ in the body. If we eat healthy foods and we treat our body right, it readily shows in our glowing skin. On the other hand, whatever ails the body is easily manifested too!

Uninterrupted Sleep

Research shows that undisturbed rest for an ideal 7-8 hours will make your skin glow and shine. It is not enough that you get certain hours of sleep but it is important that it is uninterrupted because it is in the penultimate and deepest stage of sleep called Delta Sleep right before REM in which growth hormone levels are on its optimal high and this is when cell tissue repair is at its greatest activity. So, periodic waking through the night doesn’t get you the same benefits.

Strengthens the Immune System

When you miss sleep day after day due to work or any other reason, the sleep debt accumulates and this can wreck havoc to your immune system. The lack of sleeping hours can stifle or contain the function of the immune system which is responsible for your dodging all illnesses as you go about your daily activities. It is always better to follow our body as it slowly signals us to retire for the day.

Results of Skin and Face Products Enhanced

We spend so much on beauty products to improve our appearance but we wonder why we don’t get the promised results. If you haven’t been getting enough sleep then no skin and face beauty product will be able to help you. Because it is only when you are deep asleep, that these products work most effectively. Try to spend precious minutes in the comfort of your bed snoozing and cuddling and you’ll reap the benefits in no time at all!

Glowing, Shining Best

Radiant complexion is what we all wanted. But as a person matures, the lines become more prominent and there will be over-all lackluster appearance. We turn to creams and lotions and all other facial or skin products but we forget that   quality, healthful rest everyday can easily bring out the glow and radiance of our skin.

Loss of Cellular Water Prevented

Inadequate sleep can lead to skin problems like loss of elasticity and one is predispose to frequent break-outs. If we retain water, we can make our skin hydrated and therefore, makes it soft and supple. During sleep, the hormones cortisol and insulin peaks inversely and there is marked increase of collagen 1 production. This collagen 1 production strengthens the epidermal /dermal connection and evaporation is lessened and therefore, more water is retained in the skin.

Sleep Time is Skin Repair Time

It is only during healthy sleeping time that the body goes into repair mode. The skin can manifest cumulative harmful effects brought about by constant worry, prolonged exposure to the sun, dust, smoke and other pollutants. Proteins, which are responsible for tissue repair and regeneration, are produced extensively during the peaceful hours of slumber.

If  you are still unconvinced that sleep can do wonders to your skin then why don’t you try and deprive yourself of some quality sleep for a couple of days and then take a peek  at the mirror. I know your skin is going to look like this: gaunt, emaciated, dull, sallow with dark, brooding under eye circles! Not a pretty picture, right?
So, go ahead and get those forty winks and you’ll feel these healthy benefits right under your skin!!!
